For the first time in years Apple didn’t release their latest and greatest smartphone(s) in September. As a result of the worldwide pandemic the event was pushed to October, with the launch window also having to be moved due to manufacturing delays. Now, Apple have finally announced the launch event for the iPhone 12 range, which will take place on October 13th.

Apple has sent out invites with the tagline “Hi, Speed.”
As previously reported, it is expected that the company will launch four iPhones at the event. We will get the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12, which will have the same specs. Then the more prestigious variants in the form of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The smallest device, the Mini, will have a 5.4-inch. The 6.1-inch variant will be called iPhone 12, while the more powerful 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch variants will be called iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
For the first time all variants in the range will have OLED displays, whereas the cheaper versions had LCD displays in the past.
The internals will be top notch, of course. The new iPhone 12 series will use the company’s latest mobile chipset, the A14 Bionic. We don’t have an idea of how much quicker it will be than last year’s A13 Bionic, but going by the tagline it may be a pretty big change in technology – perhaps a new architecture altogether.
The devices need new hardware, of course, because this will be the year of the 5G iPhone. Rumours suggest that all new iPhones will support sub-6 5G, but support for faster (but less common) mmWave 5G could be limited to just a single model. Be sure to stay tuned when we round up everything that Apple announces on October 13th.
