Xiaomi has yet to properly spread their wings in South Africa. Their launch several years ago was low-key and there hasn’t been a big push for market share. With rival Oppo officially launching in South Africa, they have to step up their game. The Xiaomi Redmi 9 and Redmi 9A is now available in South Africa, expanding the current range of offerings in the country.

The two latest entries in the range slots into a large range of budget to upper mid-range of devices. The devices look relatively similar (much like the rest in the range), with both sporting the same 6.53-inch display. The resolution is different, though, with the Redmi 9 having a FullHD+ display while the Redmi 9A has an HD+ panel.

The Redmi 9 device also has a continues the better spec rap sheet, with a better MediaTek Helio G80, compared to the MediaTek Helio G25 on the Redmi 9A. It has double the RAM (4GB vs. 2GB) and internal storage (128GB vs. 64GB).
The biggest different, however, comes in the form of the camera setup. The Redmi 9 has a 13MP wide-angle main camera, an MP ultra-wide, a 5MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. On the other hand, the Redmi 9A only has the 13MP main camera.
Both are for sale now, with the Redmi 9 priced at R3,599 while the Redmi 9A comes in at R1,999.
