DC Comics’ FanDome, one of the biggest showcases in the geek and comic book movieverse officially took place this past weekend. One we previewed not long ago, FanDome was set as a mega 24 hour immersive fan experience, bringing all Super Heroes and Super-Villains in one place to celebrate DC’s past, present and future – it was that and more as advertised.
The event was hosted online and it gave us a taste of DC’s exciting line-up headlined by The Batman, Wonder Woman 1984, Justice League Snyder Cut and The Suicide Squad. Spectacular footage, cosplay, fan art, surprising cast reveals, online chats with the production teams including the directors and actors, and more were the order of the day in a very well organised sequence.
Following its not so great record and widely documented head-to-head against Marvel Comics, this is exactly what DC Comics needed to get individuals excited again about its plans and great offering of classic comic book characters.
A lot was featured and we’ve compiled some of our highlights, let’s check that out below:
When it was first announced we admit to not being fully sold on the idea of Robert Pattinson assuming the role as the Batman (our all time favorite superhero) but following the official reveal we’re taking all that back. Overseen by Matt Reeves, the movie’s teaser trailer looked pretty awesome, all of this despite the fact the movie is only 30% shot at this point. Joining Pattison in the lead role is none other than the gorgeous Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman. ‘While the film isn’t scheduled for release until 2021, it’s already received a spinoff show about the Gotham police department, with Reeves producing.’
Also featuring was a new role-playing video game called Gotham Knights which is based on Batman and his supporting cast. The game is developed by WB Games Montréal and will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Wonder Woman: 1984
This needs no introduction considering that it’s one of DC’s leading and most successful current movie franchises. The sequel ofWonder Women (officially titled Wonder Women 1984) was also included as part of the line-up with Gal Gadot and Chris Pine joining director Patty Jenkins to talk about the movie as well as present a brand new trailer for us to checkout:
Justice League: The Snyder Cut
Another one that doesn’t need an introduction especially since we’ve also spoken about it before, the Justice League: The Snyder Cut spearheaded by director Zack Snyder is heading to HBO Max next year and it included a teaser trailer of the now confirmed four hour-long spectacle:
The Suicide Squad
The Suicide Squad reveal is one that easily presented several surprises specifically in the movie’s cast members. Under the capable hands of James Gunn (responsible for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise among others), the director revealed every character that includes Idris Elba whose set to assume the character of Bloodsport; wrestler-actor John Cena is playing Peacemaker; and Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson whose set to assume the role of Blackguard:
There’s plenty more that was revealed, to see all of that check here. Barring anymore unforeseen events, 2021 is all set to be a great year and one packed with all kinds of great movies, games and more. We can’t wait and adding to the fun is DC Comics (as evident above) who have seemingly started getting their act together with an action packed line-up!
