Slack adds generative AI that can summarise conversations

Slack has officially launched its generative AI toolset, a much-anticipated release following its teaser last year. These features are designed to streamline your daily interactions on the work-centric chat platform.

One notable feature is the auto-generated channel recaps, aimed at providing key highlights for users who have been away from their keyboards or smartphones. Slack’s algorithm intelligently separates content, ensuring that discussions on diverse topics, such as coffee beans and quarterly earnings, are summarized appropriately.

Similarly, there’s a tool for threads, allowing users to quickly catch up on one-on-one or group conversations with a single click. This feature helps users avoid being overwhelmed by excessive messages and instead receive concise summaries.

Conversational search is another highlight, enabling users to ask questions using natural language rather than relying on Slack’s traditional search bar. The algorithm sifts through previous conversations and delivers clear, concise answers based on relevant data.

While the time-saving potential of these tools remains to be seen, Slack is committed to advancing artificial intelligence. Future plans include personalized summaries for channels users want to monitor sporadically, as well as integration of popular third-party apps into the AI ecosystem.
