Details disclosed in the group’s interim results for the six months ending August 2026 highlight that the capital outlay went toward re-engineering Dis-Chem’s core e-commerce engine and enhancing retail execution.
Key digital milestones include:
- Pharmacy and Clinic Digitisation: The updated e-commerce architecture is serving as a blueprint for digitising Dis-Chem’s in-store pharmacy and clinic operations.
- Customer Application: The newly launched mobile app has reached 22,000 registered users, with a secondary rollout scheduled for the final quarter of the 2027 financial year to broaden consumer adoption.
- Data-Led Commercial Strategy: Insights generated by X, Bigly Labs will drive personalized promotional targeting, predictive analytics, and revenue-based store refurbishment prioritization.
Despite solid top-line revenue growth supported by customer engagement initiatives, Dis-Chem recorded lower bottom-line margins for the interim period due to front-loaded digital investments.

The updated Better Rewards loyalty scheme contributed significantly to top-line performance, accounting for 86.1% of total sales and returning R1.5 billion to members.
Management attributed the profit decline to a higher invested cost base in the second half of FY2026. Dis-Chem Group CEO Rui Morais noted that earnings are expected to balance out across the full financial year, supported by a stronger second-half performance.
