The upcoming Game Awards 2023 have unveiled their nominations, with Baldur’s Gate 3 and Alan Wake 2 leading the race with eight nods each. Both games are contenders for the prestigious Game of the Year award, alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4 remake, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo secured the most nominations among publishers with 15, followed by Sony (13), Microsoft (10, including Bethesda and Activision Blizzard’s nods), and Epic Games (nine).
The awards ceremony will feature 31 categories, including Best Adaptation, with nominees like Castlevania: Nocturne, Gran Turismo, The Last of Us, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Twisted Metal. Notable indie games, including Cocoon, Dave the Diver, Dredge, Tchia, Viewfinder, Pizza Tower, and Hello Kitty Island Adventure, also received well-deserved nominations.
Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, on a redemption path from its troubled debut three years ago, and its Phantom Liberty expansion gathered four nominations. The winners will be determined by combining fan poll results with votes from a jury consisting of over 100 global media publications and influencer outlets. The Game Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on December 7, with an anticipated focus on not only awards but also exciting new trailers, potentially including one for Grand Theft Auto VI.
