Mentioned by Elon Musk at the beginning of the year, Tesla is now officially rolling out Steam integration for the latest versions of Model S and X cars. In the promo video you see Tesla’s infotainment system running Steam Beta and even graphically demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring.

The only models that are able to run Steam (for now) are the new Plaid models of both the Model S and X. It isn’t clear if new non-Plaid vehicles rolling off the manufacturing line from 2023 will also get the feature in the future.
The cars’ infotainment systems offer enough grunt to play these graphically demanding games. Both models’ infotainment systems use AMD’s RDNA 2 GPUs, which are also the technology behind PlayStation 5, and AMD’s Ryzen chips.
While Tesla has been building its own library of in-vehicle games, including titles like Cuphead, PUBG Mobile and Fallout Shelter, having full Steam integration in the car means that owners will have access to the full library of games on the platform, which numbers in the thousands.
As is the case when Tesla started offering games to its library, Steam games will not be able to be played while the vehicle is in motion. The cars will also be able to use any mainstream game controller, and it is even possible to play the games with a keyboard and mouse.
In addition to Steam integration, Tesla’s holiday update also gives owners access to Apple Music integration for their infotainment systems. It gives them the ability to schedule Light Shows on multiple vehicles simultaneously, as well, and to view their cabin camera from the Tesla app while in Dog Mode or Sentry Mode.
