In 2021 Samsung finally heeded our advice – we don’t need the Galaxy Note anymore. There was no Galaxy Note launched in 2021 for the first time since 2011. The Galaxy S series has had the same top-notch specs for years now, and the foldable range (Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip) have taken over the premium mantle from the Note. The S-Pen is a much-loved hardware accessory to many, however, and new leaks have revealed that Samsung will include it in their flagship device in 2022, the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

A flurry of leaks of the upcoming Galaxy S22 range have surfaced recently. The new Galaxy S22 Ultra looks to be firmly aimed at Galaxy Note fans. It is shaping up to be a direct successor to the Galaxy Note 20, with a slot for the S-Pen and a much boxier design than the rest of the Galaxy range. It also looks like it has an additional camera to those found on the S21 Ultra, although it isn’t clear what functionality is gained from it.
At the same time, the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus seems to be much more iterative updates in comparison. The Galaxy S22 Plus might be rebranded to the S22 Pro, but this is also not confirmed yet.
The Galaxy S22 and larger sibling will have flatter sides that the current Galaxy S21 models, with a similar (yet refined) camera bump. Most of the changes will sit underneath the shell. It is thought that the new S22 range will have a main camera bumped up to 50MP (from 12MP) and use the latest silicon from Snapdragon to drive it all.
It is a move that makes sense, as Samsung was cannibalising its own sales with the different models in the range. Having the S22 Ultra be a complete standout is a much better move, appealing to that Note enthusiast crowd.
