Despite not having credible information from Apple regarding their plans, there have been a slew of rumours regarding their AR and VR projects. However, some have claimed to have seen it and we now have artist renders of what the VR headset may look like. It is a separate project from the AR glasses that is expected to launch at a cost of $499.

Designer Antonio de Rosa have taken the leaked schematics and product documents and turned it into a real-world view of what that may look like in final form. In his renders, the front glass (or plastic?) slab is curved to fit the shape of the wearer’s head. It has a silver bezel with a silver Apple logo in the centre, although we would be surprised if Apple was so garish as to put it on your face.
The sensors and cameras that enable movement through a VR environment is built into the top of the visor, above the alleged Apple logo. According to reports, the headset will have passthrough cameras for a mixed-reality effect.
The mask itself is reminiscent of a snorkelling mask, in how it hugs the nose. It has a rubber headband, and a rubber and mesh combo where the headset meets the face. We aren’t sure about the internal specs, but it has been reported that it will be beefy hardware, including dual 8K displays, one for each eye.
As always with leaks, take it with a huge grain of salt. This could still be an early prototype that would naturally change significantly by the time we get the final product. It is expected that the headset will launch sometime in 2022, for a rumoured price of $3000.
