South African pricing for new Macbook Air and Macbook Pro revealed

It has been a busy couple of months for Apple with three launch events in quick succession. At its latest ‘One More Thing’ event, they announced their own silicon that now power the new Macbook Air and Macbook Pro laptops. The South African pricing of the new Apple laptops have been revealed by iStore, the official Apple partner in the country.

The new Apple M1 chipset is claimed to deliver significant increases in performance and power efficiency, which is the holy grail of processor development. It will replace the Intel chips in the current line-up, which is a major move for Apple to simplify production and increase profits.

Apple promises up to five times the graphics performance of the previous generation on the Macbook Air and three times more performance than the previous generation on the Macbook Pro, among other claims.

The Macbook Air is completely silent as it has no built-in fan and offers up to 18 hours of video playback on a single charge. The Macbook Pro also has improved battery performance compared to the predecessor and has a much-improved webcam for the first time in several generations.

What makes the Apple M1 chip so much better than its contemporaries? Apple says it is mostly down to the design of the system-on-a-chip’s architecture. The M1 is a 5nm chip with 16 billion transistors, support for Thunderbolt 4, an eight-core CPU and GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine to power machine learning capabilities. The new chipset has four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores (used to complete lightweight tasks).

The Macbook Pro’s colour options are Space Grey or Silver, while the Macbook Air is available in Space Grey, Silver, or Gold.

Luckily for consumers, the pricing of the new models isn’t much different to what they were before, which you can find below.
