For the first time in years, we are seeing interesting smartphones come to market with different and varying form factors. Foldables are going mainstream and LG have released dual-screen display devices like the G8X ThinQ recently. Now we have the LG Wing – a device with a flip-out second display – offering something completely unique.

In a new video obtained by Android Authority, we finally see the device in action. While it isn’t an exceedingly long or detailed video, it shows what is a nearly production-ready device in use. In it we see it being used for navigation and music playback simultaneously while driving; a likely use case for potential buyers of the upcoming device.
Unlike the other dual screen devices that LG has launched in the last couple of years, the LG Wing will not need a separate accessory – this secondary display is attached to the phone itself.
The secondary display flips out from the bottom of the of the primary one. When fully flipped out to the side it sits perpendicular to the primary display as a smaller, squarer display. In the video the driver receives an incoming call which then opens on the secondary display instead of obstructing the view of the navigation.
The device is expected to have a 4.8-inch primary display with the flip-out display being 4-inches in size. According to rumours it will run the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 or 765G chipset. The likely launch date is still unknown but seeing as this prototype is effectively a production ready phone, we hope to see the launch soon.
We’re glad to see smartphone manufacturers explore new and interesting form factors again. Since the advent of the smartphone, innovation (from a hardware perspective) has been few and far between. Hopefully, the LG Wing is as functional as it is interesting.
