Far Cry 6 will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. At the event we got the announcement with two different trailers, neither of which gave us a taste of what the gameplay will look and feel like. Rather, we get a taste of the world the developers are building, with Giancarlo Esposito starring as the main antagonist Castillo.
Of Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian fame, Giancarlo Esposito will bring an eerie nature to Anton Castillo, who is the president of the fictional island of Yara. Players will assume the role of Dani Rojas (which can be played as either a male of female character), as they try to overthrow Castillo and his son Diego, who he is preparing to succeed him. Rojas is a native that joins a rebellion to the tyrannical Castillo regime.
While the island of Yara is purely fictional, it is easy to see which location(s) it is inspired by. With lush forests covering rolling hills and mountains and large cities dotting the island in between, it is very reminiscent of a Cuba-like locale. The addition of more high-rise buildings could bring a new flavour to the Far Cry combat, as verticality can open up some interesting gunplay mechanics.
According to Ubisoft, players will be able to “use a powerful array of weapons and vehicles, and build a network of allies to fight alongside you, including Fangs for Hire like Chorizo, the dangerously distracting wiener dog.” That’s right – it looks like Chorizo the two-legged, two-wheeled wiener dog will be your constant companion and add some tactical abilities for you Rojas.
