According to reports by VentureBeat, Squadrons will be a new Star Wars dogfighting game in lieu of the classics such as Star Wars X-Wing and Rogue Squadron. You’ll be in extensive aerial battles between X-Wings and TIE Fighters, among other vehicles. The game is said to have a single player campaign, but the main focus of it will be the multiplayer experience.
EA will release the game sometime towards the end of the year, but we are sure to get the actual release date in the trailer of the game. It will be available on PC and consoles.
While modern Star Wars games have been relatively hit-and-miss, EA had a massive success with the last title, Jedi: Fallen Order. It sold more digital copies in its first two weeks after release than any other Star Wars game in EA’s history of publishing the series of games including Battlefront II. The latter, while entertaining to many, didn’t include enough depth to be a long-lived classic like many had hoped. It also required a live service of the game, being a multiplayer experience, which Fallen Order’s narrative driven nature didn’t need.
While details of the new Squadrons title are scarce, we should receive more from EA following the release of the trailer next week.
