Behold, the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 Lite are here

It wasn’t long ago that every major smartphone manufacturer released a flagship handset that was coupled with a smaller, more compact and (yes) more affordable variant – and now, some months after the initial release of the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10, the South Korean chaebol has released the Galaxy S10 Lite and Galaxy Note 10 Lite.

Call it a comeback – both devices arrive on the market with fairly similar feature sets, with only a few distinct differences. The commonalities begin with the fact that both handsets carry 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display, 4,500mAh batteries, and either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. There’s also 128GB of expandable internal storage to boot.

Besides the S10 Lite’s obvious lack of an S Pen stylus, differences include processors (the S10 Lite uses a Snapdragon 855 while the Note 10 Lite uses an Exynos 8895) and the rear camera array.

While both handsets have triple-lens rear cameras, the S10 Lite offers a 5-megapixel f/2.4 macro lens; a 48-megapixel F2.0 wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide featuring a 123-degree angle lens.The Note 10 Lite instead uses aa 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide; a 12-megapixel f/1.7 wide-angle lens with dual-pixel technology and OIS; and a 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens.

Samsung has yet to confirm if either device will ship internationally, or will be limited to certain markets. The move is an interesting play from the South Korean giant, and comes amidst swirling rumours that Apple is readily considering launching a revamped iPhone SE 2 into the market.

The firm also has considerably more legroom to play in considering Huawei’s tumultuous 2019 thanks to trade war woes, and it remains to be seen whether its new Lite smartphones will be enough to strengthen its foothold.
