Prisma has unveiled has unveiled a new set of deep learning-powered photo filters that can be overlaid on top of a Facebook Live broadcast.
One of our favourite apps to emerge in 2016 is Prisma; an interesting take on an image filter which can transform ordinary pictures into works of art through deep learning.
Now, the team behind Prisma have unveiled eight new filters which users can apply to Facebook Live broadcasts. The bad news? You’ll need an iPhone 6s or 7 to do so.

Prisma’s creators cite that applying filters to live video takes considerable processing power, only available on newer hardware. Thus far, no confirmation has been provided as to whether the feature will roll out on Android, or on what devices.
Users can now apply one of eight video filters, which will convert live streams into moving works of art similarly to how the app deconstructs images and then rebuilds them in a selected art style.
There has been speculation that Prisma itself might be acquired by Facebook, as the app’s CEO, Alexey Moiseenkov, visited Facebook’s headquarters earlier this year.
While the app’s newest feature certainly integrates with one of Facebook’s focus features, it would seem that the app is – presently – striving to offer its own service distinct from Facebook’s platforms.
Should Prisma be acquired by Facebook, the service could become one of the platform’s impending filter vendors, which the social media giant experimented with earlier this year.
