That escalated quickly: Pornhub offers to buy Vine from Twitter

Pornography giant Pornhub has offered to purchase Vine after Twitter announced that it would shutter the micro-vlogging service.

Twitter took everyone by surprise yesterday when the social network announced that it would shutter its micro-vlogging service, Vine, before the end of a year – effectively destroying the platform which has produced countless viral videos and instant celebrities. Now, pornography giant Pornhub has announced that it has offered to buy out the soon-to-be-extinct network.
CNET reports that Pornhub has extended the offer under the premise that Twitter – which itself is up for acquisition – could make do with a quick cash injection; making it logical for the social media company to sell Vine rather than shutter the service altogether.

Pornhub Vice President Corey Price has written a public letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, wherein the former states that “We figure since Twitter has dropped (Vine) and is having significant layoffs, that you and your stakeholders could benefit from a cash infusion from the sale of Vine. Not to mention we would be saving Vine gems like ‘Damn Daniel,’ ‘Awkward Puppets’ and many more.”
Of course, Pornhub wouldn’t preserve Vine just to keep the videos that made you laugh. Corey outlines that it plans to “restore Vine to Its NSFW glory”, citing that videos “of porn in six seconds is more than enough time for most people to enjoy themselves.”
Alrighty then.
Thus far, Twitter has not offered public comment on the deal – though Pornhub’s bid might inspire other conglomerates to take interest in acquiring Vine rather than letting the service – however beleaguered it may be – fall by the wayside.
