One of the internet’s most beloved staples just got a makeover: an Instagram redesign has brought a new layout and app icons to Android and iOS.
Say goodbye to that iconic instamatic camera: a new Instagram redesign has gone live, bringing with it a vibrant app icon and a new layout that’s now available on both iOS and Android.
The Instagram redesign has seen the social network’s core app as well as its companions – such as Hyperlapse and Layout – receive a total face lift after sporting the same user interface for years.

The core Instagram app now sports a simplified visual layout that minimises colour, opting for a black and white palette in a move, as Instagram has phrased it, to “more focus on your photos and videos.”
The app, which now takes its remaining colour palettes from its gradient-based icon, introduces orange and red hues to in-app notifications for both likes, tags and comments.
Instagram has revealed its redesign in a video hosted on its website which highlights the creative process its team undertook to re-invigorate the app.

Structurally, the re-design keeps the fundamental elements of Instagram’s user interface and experience, and introduces a new font that displays throughout the app.
In a press release, Ian Spalter, Instagram‘s Head of Design stated that “œWhen Instagram was founded over five years ago, it was a place for you to easily edit and share photos. Over those five years, things have changed… Instagram is now a diverse community of interests where people are sharing more photos and videos than ever before, using new tools like Boomerang and Layout, and connecting in new ways through Explore.“
