HBO goes free ahead of Game of Thrones Season 6

For those who can’t wait to return to Westeros, good news: HBO is offering free access for this weekend only to entice dedicate viewers.

Game of Thrones has become something of a worldwide phenomenon since its debut in season one as a cinematic portrayal of George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Now, cable giant HBO is offering free access this weekend in a bid to offer a free viewing of the show’s season six premier.
Game of Thrones‘ sixth season is highly anticipated amongst fans, as it will reveal the fate of one of the main characters, Jon Snow, who was murdered and apparently left for dead at the close of season five.

The series – which could be in its penultimate season – is tipped to renew many important plotlines, such as the journey of Bran Stark and the return of Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister to Westeros.
Now, fans of the show without HBO accounts will be able to join in the fun this weekend, as the cable provider will become free from Friday night until Sunday night.
Game of Thrones isn’t the only attraction HBO is using to entice new viewers; pop star Beyoncé is set to take to the stage for a special event named “Lemonade“.
The move likely comes as part of a larger plan to hook new viewers into paid subscriptions to the service as a means to finish watching the remainder of Game of Thrones‘ sixth season.
Locally, DStv Premium is offering simulcast viewing of the show’s season six premier, and is set to offer episodes on Catch Up following their release.
