Microsoft Surface sales up 29%, phones down 49%

A Q2 2016 earnings report has stated that Microsoft Surface sales are up by 29%, while the company’s phones have decreased by 49%.

Good news, and bad news: The introduction of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book have resulted in the Redmond company posting a 29% increase in Microsoft Surface sales, as well as a 49% decrease in the sales of smartphones.
The company’s lower smartphone sales are a product of the company’s late introduction of Windows 10 Mobile flagship in the form of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, and the generally mixed critical reception both handset received.

Overall, Microsoft posted an increase in Surface revenue from $1.35 billion USD, up from $1.1 billion USD. However, December 2016 has resulted in one of the worst months for the company’s smartphone sales since June of 2012.
In other categories, the company posted a 70% increase in Office 365 sales.
Microsoft may soon strategy with the introduction of a Surface Phone, overseen by its new Devices head, Panos Panay, which would integrate its smartphone and Surface hybrid divisions.
