Apple and Samsung tied as world’s largest smartphone manufacturers

We have already reported on the stellar quarter that Apple had in the three months to December 2014, but the news doesn‘t stop there. In the last quarter of 2014 they actually managed to become the world‘s largest smartphone manufacturer, in a tie with Samsung.
For the longest time, Samsung has overshadowed Apple in smartphone sales, and that does make sense since Samsung serves every single market segment, while Apple only focuses on the higher-end. That being said, we have seen that this strategy is not paying off for Samsung anymore, and they have been losing market share all over the world with diminishing profits.
Both Strategy Analytics and even the IDC are already revealing their worldwide smartphone figures, and it turns out that Samsung‘s leadership is already tied by none-other than Apple. According to the report, both sold 74.5 million smartphones in the quarter. It is always the best quarter for Apple, as they usually release their newest iteration of the iPhone in September, but Samsung do have some tough questions to answer during the next couple of months.
We think a lot is riding on the success of the Galaxy S6, as its predecessor didn‘t blow away critics or fans alike.
