Now that smartphones can track all our activities, our health and probably predict when we are going to die, what’s next? Let’s step away from the usual 2D rectangular design! Well, that is what most manufacturers are thinking these days (Also see LG’s G FLEX phone). A source “close to the development” at Apple informed Bloomberg that the Cupertino based firm are currently designing 2 new smartphones (both said to be larger than the current iPhone 5s). Their curved displays are rumored to be 4.7 and 5.5 inches respectively. Another exciting revelation is the rumored sensor technology.
These sensors can distinguish heavy or light touches on the screen and could hold the potential for a myriad of different applications within the iOS software. Revealing 2 phones in a year isn’t common practice for Apple but they broke with past practice in September when it unveiled two versions of the iPhone at the same time, the iPhone 5s (more advanced) and iPhone 5c (targeting a lower income / less tech inclined market).
According to the report by Bloomberg the demand for the iPhone 5s is much higher, and iPhone 5c production has been reduced, which is an ominous sign for Apple just ahead of the festive season. Reviewing data compiled by Bloomberg based on the company‘s financial forecast published last month, revenue growth for the current quarter, Apple‘s traditional holiday sales period, may be the slowest since 2008. On the flip side of the smartphone coin, Samsung said last month it expects this quarter‘s shipment growth rate from the prior quarter to fall to a “œlow single digit“ percentage from the “œmid-10 percent range“ the prior period.
Even though these revelations are just a product of the ever busy smartphone rumor-mill, there seems to be a certain hint of desperation in some of the recent Apple product ideas and releases.
