At the heart of the news and rampant rumours over the last 6 months about the introduction of smart watch technology into our lives that has so far culminated in the release of Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and Sony’s Smartwatch 2, have been the big name tech companies that bring us our favourite smartphones, laptops, tablets and software.
Now, a company specialising in technology of a different kind, yet just as important, has entered into the smart watch arena. Car manufacturer Nissan will be unveiling its smart watch, called Nismo, at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, open to the public from 14 to 22 September.
Having been developed by the Nismo laboratory, launched earlier this year, which captures live biometric and telematics data from Nissan supercars and racing cars, Nismo is the first wearable device to connect driver to vehicle. While the device is primarily about monitoring both car and driver performance, it does have the ability to track the wearer’s social media presence across the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
At present the device that connects to the vehicle using a smartphone app via Bluetooth low energy can monitor speed and fuel consumption, capture biometric data via a heart rate monitor, access telematics and performance data while on the track as well as receive messages from Nissan about vehicle care and maintenance.
Nismo, available in three colours offers a battery life of about one week and can be controlled by two buttons on the screen.
