Samsung will host a new major announcement on August 15th, with the invitations sent out saying they are set to unveil “œthe newest Galaxy device“. No further information appeared on the invitations, but obviously there are some people who say they have some inside information.
Much of the speculation points toward the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which was announced earlier in the year at the Mobile World Congress. It was suspected to be around sooner in the year, so it does seem like the likeliest to see the light of day at last. Previously, we heard that production on the tablet was stopped for a while in order for Samsung to update the processor in the tablet to the brilliant Exynos 4412 chipset, which we saw in the Galaxy SIII. Since then, though, no further news has been heard.
Another possibility is the Galaxy Note 2. With the first phablet from Samsung being such a surprise success, it was just a matter of time before the next one came about. There are some interesting rumours attached to the Note 2, like it coming with a 12 MP camera. But that‘s not all. According to the Korean online newspaper news.mk.co.kr, it will be the first smartphone to feature Samsung flexible LED display.
As always, we will take this rumour with a pinch of salt. This one even more so, because, although we know the flexible technology already exists, I suspect the gel batteries needed to power the flexible phones are still being developed and will not be that useful as of yet.
Nevertheless, whatever device is announced in August, it should cause a stir like all recent Samsung devices.
