has reported that based on information provided by trusted sources, Apple will be bringing the iPhone 4S’s voice assist, Siri to the iPad as part of the features of iOS6. The complete Siri voice assist will be available when iOS6 launches in the coming autumn in the U.S.
With the exception of all phone related commands, Siri for iPad will include Music playback, iMessaging, Calendar managing, Reminders, Weather, Maps integration, E-mailing, Notes, Contacts searching, Safari integration and Wolfram-Alpha searching.
Apple has reportedly been testing iOS6“²s Siri for iPad on both the new (third generation) iPad as well as 2011’s iPad 2.
In response to critics of Siri for iPad, commenting that because the microphone is further away from the user’s mouth than with a mobile phone it won’t be able to correctly interpret voice commands, sources have simply dismissed this as untrue, saying that any commands given will provide the same or similar accuracy to the iPhone 4S.
However, unlike Siri for the iPhone, Siri for the iPad will not be a full screen experience which can be activated by holding down the home button on the device, as with the iPhone. Siri is built into the iPad as a small window on top of whatever interface the user is currently interacting with and will slide up from below the display to appear in the centre, once activated.
At this stage, it has not yet been confirmed if Siri for iOS6 will launch as an exclusive to the latest Retina Display model or if it will be launched alongside iOS6 at the World Wide Developer Conference taking place on 11th June.
It is possible that Apple will hold off on the reveal until an autumn event that could also see the launch of the next iPhone.
