Chinese smartphone maker Tecno is set to showcase its latest display innovation at IFA 2026: a concept device featuring an industry-first zero-millimetre border. While flagship smartphones from Apple and Samsung typically achieve around 90% screen-to-body coverage, and brands like Xiaomi and Honor push closer to 95% using hidden sensors and razor-thin margins, Tecno aims to eliminate display borders entirely, measuring its outer frame at 0 microns.

Achieving a completely bezel-less front panel required Tecno to overhaul traditional display construction. According to the company, the breakthrough relies on advanced internal component stacking and innovative packaging techniques, shaving off the remaining millimetre of border traditionally reserved for internal circuitry and structural safety clearances.

While the borderless design promises a more immersive viewing experience free from visual distractions, it also introduces practical engineering challenges—most notably palm rejection and handling ergonomics. Tecno noted that touch-sensitivity controls have been integrated to prevent accidental inputs along the edges when gripping the phone.
Tecno views this zero-bezel architecture as more than just an engineering exercise. The company plans to make the seamless screen a core design language for its future product lineup to help its devices stand out in an increasingly consolidated global market.

Though Tecno has historically focused on emerging regions rather than North American or Western European markets, the brand’s persistent focus on cutting-edge concept hardware signals an effort to compete directly with established global players like Oppo and Honor. Further technical details and hands-on demos are expected when IFA kicks off next month.
