Africa’s first gigawatt battery plant launched in Cape Town

Solar MD, a leading energy storage company, has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art gigawatt factory in Cape Town, South Africa. This landmark facility, operational since July 2024, is capable of producing up to 3GWh of energy storage annually.

The 15,000-square-meter plant is a significant milestone for Africa’s renewable energy sector. It will play a crucial role in addressing the continent’s energy challenges and accelerating the transition to clean energy.
