Although BioWare had hinted at a quiet N7 Day without new updates on the next Mass Effect game, there’s still thrilling news for fans: Amazon MGM Studios is officially developing a TV series set in the Mass Effect universe. The series will be written and executive-produced by Daniel Casey, known for his work on F9: The Fast Saga and contributions to sci-fi films Kin and 10 Cloverfield Lane. While Variety has shared some names of other executive producers, details about the cast and plot remain under wraps. Since much of the original Mass Effect games’ charm comes from players shaping Commander Shepard’s moral choices and relationships, it’s likely the series will explore a new storyline within the Mass Effect universe rather than rehash the trilogy’s plot.
Following the success of its Fallout TV adaptation earlier this year, Amazon seems committed to expanding its slate of game-based series. The company is also reviving plans for a live-action God of War show, signalling that it’s doubling down on video game adaptations as a source of compelling content.
