X is allowed to operate again after month ban in Brazil

The Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has ordered Anatel, the country’s telecommunications agency, to unblock X within 24 hours. This decision comes after X fulfilled all the necessary requirements for reinstatement.

While the court ruling allows for X’s immediate return, it may take some time for the app to be fully accessible. Anatel needs to notify Brazil’s 20,000 internet service providers to remove the restrictions, which vary by system.

X’s withdrawal of its legal representative in Brazil led to the ban after the company failed to comply with court orders to block certain popular accounts. Justice de Moraes issued the ban on August 30th, giving Brazilian telecoms five days to restrict access to X.

X’s Global Government Affairs account expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of access to the platform for millions of Brazilians. The company reiterated its commitment to defending freedom of speech within legal boundaries.

The return of X was delayed due to a payment issue. While X paid the required fines last week, the funds were initially remitted to the wrong bank. Once the funds were transferred to the correct institution, the court allowed for X’s reinstatement.
