The company announced updates that include AI-organized web results, enhancements to Google Lens (incorporating video and voice capabilities), and the addition of links and ads within AI Overviews.

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of AI-organized search results, which appear to signal a larger shift in how Google might handle search in the future. Initially, this feature will focus on recipes and meal ideas. The AI will curate a “full-page experience,” presenting users with a range of relevant content from across the web, including articles, videos, and forums. This change is designed to offer more comprehensive results based on the user’s search query, presenting multiple perspectives from various online sources.
In addition to AI-organized results, Google’s AI Overviews, which offer AI-generated snippets of information at the top of search results, are also being enhanced. The updated design will now feature more visible links to supporting webpages, providing users with easier access to source material. According to Google, testing of this new format has shown increased traffic to these linked websites.
However, another significant update is the introduction of ads within AI Overviews. This new development is initially being rolled out in the U.S., and users can expect to start seeing ads integrated into AI-generated content in the near future.
Google’s “Circle to Search” feature is also gaining new functionality. It will now allow users to identify songs they hear without needing to switch between apps, similar to the capabilities of apps like Shazam. This feature has expanded to over 150 million Android devices since its launch earlier this year.
Google Lens, the visual search tool that allows users to search by image, is receiving several major upgrades. It will now support video and voice input, enabling users to ask complex questions about visual content, such as why fish in an aquarium swim together, based on a video clip and voice query. Additionally, users will be able to ask questions vocally while taking a picture, a feature designed to mimic how you might ask a friend about something you’re seeing.
Google Lens is also becoming a more robust shopping tool. The AI-enhanced visual product search will now provide users with critical information about products, including reviews, price comparisons across retailers, and availability. These enhancements aim to make product searches more informative and user-friendly.
These updates to Google Lens are rolling out globally, with some requiring opt-ins, such as video searches being available through Search Labs. Voice input for Google Lens is now live for English-speaking users on Android and iOS, and the upgraded shopping features will begin rolling out this week.
