X will now allow your posts to be visible to users you’ve blocked. In a statement on Monday, X owner Elon Musk clarified that “the block function will block that account from engaging with you, but not from seeing public posts.”

Currently, when someone tries to view the profile of a person who has blocked them, X displays a “You’re blocked” message. This function not only blocks access to posts but also restricts viewing replies, media, followers, and the following list.
However, a source at X said that the platform is making this change because users can already view posts from those who’ve blocked them by using another account or simply logging out. Interestingly, X actually prevents you from viewing someone’s profile when logged out, contradicting this reasoning.
Elon Musk has been outspoken in his opposition to the block button. Last year, he criticized the feature, stating that it “makes no sense” and should be replaced with a more robust mute option. At one point, Musk even suggested removing the block feature altogether, except for use in direct messages.
Although X’s block function will still prevent a blocked user from interacting with posts, they will still be able to view them, which raises concerns about the potential for continued harassment. By allowing blocked users to see posts, bad actors may still have a way to engage in harmful behaviour indirectly, even if they are unable to directly comment or interact with the blocked user’s content.
The decision to modify the block feature comes at a time when many social media platforms are grappling with balancing user privacy and public visibility. While Musk’s approach emphasizes a more open public space on X, it has sparked debate over how effectively the platform can protect users from harassment and unwanted attention.
