“Shop Mzansi” features thousands of products across various categories, including toys, homeware, outdoor equipment, baby essentials, luggage, and beauty products. This curated space allows millions of South African customers to discover and support local businesses with ease.
“We’re excited to launch Shop Mzansi and provide a platform for over 160 South African brands, both established and emerging,” said Robert Koen, Managing Director of Amazon Sub-Saharan Africa. “South Africa boasts a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, and we’re committed to supporting the growth of small businesses within our economy.”
The storefront will not only highlight independent sellers but also offer a space for recognized South African brands like Heartfelt, Tiger Lily Tots, and King Kong Leather.
“Independent sellers are crucial to our success,” continued Koen. “Shop Mzansi allows us to offer a wider selection, competitive pricing, and a convenient shopping experience for our customers.”
This launch marks Amazon’s continued commitment to invest and innovate for its South African customers. The company plans to expand the “Shop Mzansi” selection by onboarding more local sellers and helping them list their products.
With competitors like Takealot, Temu, and Shein offering strong local presences, it remains to be seen if “Shop Mzansi” will be enough to differentiate Amazon.co.za in the South African market. However, this initiative demonstrates Amazon’s focus on supporting local businesses and potentially winning over South African consumers.
