The film’s trailer, released recently, begins with iconic footage from Peter Jackson’s beloved trilogy. While the animation style is distinctly different, the familiar landscapes of Edoras and Helm’s Deep immediately evoke nostalgia for the earlier films.
At the heart of the story is King Helm Hammerhand and his daughter, Hera. The trailer hints at a brewing conflict involving a rejected marriage proposal and a clash with the family of the would-be suitor, Wulf. The action-packed narrative is further enhanced by the presence of Oliphaunts and subtle teases of events related to the One Ring.
Renowned anime director Kenji Kamiyama, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Eden of the East, has helmed this project. The film’s voice cast includes Brian Cox as King Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Hera, and Miranda Otto reprising her role as Eowyn, who serves as the narrator.
The War of the Rohirrim is scheduled for release on December 13th. It marks the first of several upcoming Lord of the Rings films, including Andy Serkis’ The Hunt for Gollum. Additionally, fans can continue their Middle-earth journey with the second season of Amazon’s The Rings of Power, premiering in the coming weeks.
