A key driver of growth was Checkers Sixty60, the company’s on-demand delivery service, which experienced a remarkable 58.1% surge in sales. This digital platform has become a cornerstone of Shoprite’s operations, demonstrating the increasing demand for convenient shopping options.
The retailer expanded its footprint by opening 201 new stores across various formats, including Shoprite, USave, Checkers, LiquorShop, and specialized outlets like Petshop Science, Checkers Outdoor, UNIQ Clothing, and Little Me. This strategic growth has contributed to Shoprite’s overall success.
Despite the challenging economic environment, the group managed to reduce diesel expenditure by 50% in the second half of the year compared to the previous period. This cost-saving measure helped offset increased electricity consumption.
Shoprite’s financial results underscore its resilience and adaptability in a dynamic market. The company’s focus on expanding its digital offerings and optimizing operations has positioned it for continued growth.
