LG unveils the DukeBox, vacuum tube audio behind transparent OLED

With CES 2024 just on the horizon, tech companies are already offering glimpses of what attendees can expect in Las Vegas. Renowned for over a century, vacuum tube audio is cherished for its ability to deliver a warm sound quality, accentuating each instrument and creating an immersive sensation akin to a live musical performance. The DukeBox incorporates this technology, featuring front-facing bottom speakers and 360-degree speakers on top. The vacuum tubes are intentionally visible, enhancing the device’s retro aesthetic, while the transparency of the OLED display can be adjusted.

The DukeBox caters to those who desire a smart speaker with a sleek, retro design. While reminiscent of classic jukeboxes, this device isn’t limited to music playback. Users have the option to enjoy various content, such as movies, or even simulate a “fireplace” with the visible tubes accompanying the flames.

LG has announced that its Labs zone at CES 2024 will be twice the size of the previous year. Additionally, other anticipated LG announcements include a two-legged AI-powered robot, laptops featuring AI capabilities, and the CineBeam Qube—a 4K projector with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, capable of projecting images up to 120 inches. Weighing just three pounds, this device incorporates image mapping and a handle that resembles a crank. While LG has a scheduled press conference for CES 2024, the company tends to unveil numerous products in the days leading up to the event.

As of now, both the DukeBox and the CineBeam Qube lack specific release dates and pricing details. LG is expected to provide more comprehensive information about these and other new products during CES, providing attendees with an opportunity to assess the products’ quality and gain early hands-on impressions.
