Roblox will finally come to its last platform – PlayStation

Roblox, the popular online game platform and creation toolset, is set to make its debut on PlayStation in October, as announced during the 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC). This highly-anticipated release will be available not only on the latest PlayStation 5 but also on the PS4, ensuring accessibility for players across the Sony gaming ecosystem, and as always, it will be offered as a free download.

Roblox has had a presence on various platforms, including PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Xbox, but it has been notably absent from the Nintendo Switch. However, during an August earnings call, CEO David Baszucki hinted at the possibility of a Switch release in the future. The company also revealed that the VR version of Roblox is on track to launch officially on the Meta Quest platform later this month, following a successful testing phase.

For the PlayStation release, Roblox promises that players will have access to “the full catalogue of Roblox experiences,” indicating a seamless cross-platform experience. This means that gamers can dive into their favourite Roblox creations without any hurdles. The delay in launching on PlayStation could be attributed to Sony’s concerns about child safety, as documented last year.

In addition to expanding its availability, Roblox introduced several exciting features at the RDC. One such feature is a unique video chat that incorporates users’ Roblox avatars, facilitating one-on-one conversations with fellow players. This adds a more immersive dimension to social interactions within the Roblox ecosystem.

Roblox also introduced a novel chatbot called Roblox Assistant, leveraging generative AI to assist with various tasks such as planning game builds, coding, creating virtual assets, and more. In a demonstration, users requested features like ancient ruins or trees to be incorporated into their games, and the chatbot automatically added the requested elements, streamlining the creative process. This integration of generative AI aims to simplify and enhance the Roblox building experience. Both the chatbot and video chat feature are expected to be rolled out in the coming months, further enriching the Roblox experience for creators and players alike.
