While many consumers have embraced wireless earbuds for their convenience and simplicity, you typically still have to carry around a case to store and charge them. Huawei thinks you can cut out the middle man. Huawei has teased a Watch Buds smartwatch that includes earbuds that you charge beneath the dial.

We don’t have a lot of official information as of yet, but Huawei is expected to announce this device alongside several others at its winter launch event, now delayed. In the teaser, we do see how this device takes advantage of the space on your wrists to charge the earbuds, though.
According to photos obtained by Huawei Central, the earbuds attach to the underside of the dial and sit in recesses when the watch is closed. When closed, the rest of the device looks very similar to the company’s Watch GT series, complete with a steel case and leather strap. It will also run Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS operating system, which it uses after being stripped of their ability to use Google Mobile Services (GMS).
We don’t have any released specs yet, but we would assume (and hope) that the watch will have a larger battery than is found on other Watch GT models to accommodate the charging of those earbuds.
The early leaked hands-on video from QSQTechnology seems to confirm that the buds attach to the bottom of the dial with magnets. As you would imagine, it is thicker than most smartwatches to house those earbuds. The rest of the design isn’t particularly eye-catching, but again, that’s not their aim. It is function over form in this case.
It’s not certain when Huawei will formally announce the Watch Buds, nor is it clear which countries will get them.
