A first look at Amazon Prime Video’s Gen V series

Amazon Prime‘s The Boys has more than made its mark thanks to its unconventional take on superheroes – the spinoff, Gen V, is looking to do the same. Due to its no holds barred approach, The Boys has split audiences and falls on the hate it or love it bracket. Following our first official look at it, there’s no doubt the same will very much apply to Gen V.

Set at a college campus, Gen V will continue to deliver on the franchise’s famously gory super powered world while introducing a young cast of characters who are subject to Vought International’s underground Supe-creating experiments. Inspired by both the “We Gotta Go Now” arc from The Boys comics and the G-Men parody, the spinoff show hails from Agent Carter alums Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters. Gen V wrapped filming in September, though a potential release date for the series is still unknown.

The cast includes franchise newcomers Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Chance Perdomo, Maddie Phillips, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Sean Patrick Thomas. There will also be some extra connective tissue as Jessie T. Usher, Colby Minifie, and P.J. Byrne will all reprise their roles from The Boys.

Not one for the kids, despite it being of a superhero nature, Gen V isn’t the only The Boys spin-off out there. Earlier this year, the animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical hit Amazon Prime Video and also garnered strong reviews. The Boys (renewed for a fourth season) has been one of Amazon’s biggest hits and the streaming giant is clearly looking to get as much mileage out of it as possible. The series even earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, the first Prime Video show to do so.

Gen V comes to Amazon Prime Video in 2023.
