Logitech and Tencent is launching a handheld console

Tencent is one of the biggest gaming companies in the world (even though few know they are playing a game Tencent has had a hand in). Logitech, famed computer hardware manufacturer, has announced it is working with Tencent on a dedicated handheld gaming device compatible with multiple cloud gaming services.

While we haven’t seen anything of the handheld console yet, the partnership still claims they will launch it before the end of this year. In a blog post, Logitech said that the plan is to combine its hardware expertise with Tencent’s software know-how to launch a product that will have wide marker appeal. It said the new device would support various cloud gaming services, including Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now.

“As someone that grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere is super exciting, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on,” according to Logitech G general manager Ujesh Desai.

Of course, this means the product will be competing with some big hitters in the industry, including Valve, Nintendo, and AyaNeo, that have already launched — or plan on launching — handheld gaming consoles. The Steam Deck, Valve’s recent entry into the market, has been making waves and is already a very successful product for the company traditionally focused on software. It launched in February of this year, and combines Steam’s games network with top of the line handheld hardware.

“Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming gear make them an ideal partner to help us realize the vision of bringing a better gaming experience to gamers around the globe,” said Daniel Wu, general manager of Tencent Games Smart Solution Innovation Lab. “Today marks the start of a new opportunity for our companies to further push the frontiers of gaming devices.”

“As one of the leading global platforms for game development, publishing and operations, Tencent Games has been at the forefront of innovation and it’s why we partnered with them,” said Ujesh Desai, general manager of Logitech G. “As someone that grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere is super exciting, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.”
