Corsair’s new bendable OLED gaming monitor is bonkers

Curved gaming displays are SO last year. How about a monitor that can bend from a fully flat display into a curved display with a maximum curvature of 800R? Corsair has developed a new monitor is the best of both worlds, easily bending from a flat monitor for work into a curved one for gaming immersion. And on top of that, it is an OLED panel with impressively fast refresh rate.

Corsair have announced the Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240, which is a 45-inch widescreen monitor with 3,440 x 1,440 resolution and bends to offer both a flat and curved display. The prototype features a pair of handles on its sides that allow you to adjust the curvature of its LG-made W-OLED panel up to a maximum of 800R. You can even adjust the sides independently of one another – though there’s no practical reason for doing so.

The concept makes a lot of sense if you think about the two types of panels’ most attractive qualities. The conventional wisdom when it comes to whether you should buy a flat or curved monitor is that the former is better suited for daily use and productivity tasks while the latter is ideal for gaming since it can make the experience feel more immersive.

The lingering question is still how durable the display will be in the long term. Foldable displays still aren’t as strong as they need to (and leave an obvious crease), but the fact that this display isn’t fully folding closed will probably work in its favour. However, there is still the long-term wear that can occur. Most people only use their phones for two to three years, whereas a computer monitor is used for many years (especially for the price you can expect to pay for this one).

The 45WQHD240 is a 21:9 ultrawide panel features a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms grey-to-grey response time and 99 percent DCI-P3 coverage. It’s also G-Sync compatible and can max out at 1,000 nits of brightness. Final pricing and availability haven’t been announced.
