GeForce Now on Chrome upgraded to 1440p and 120fps

Nvidia has upgraded its GeForce Now game streaming service to support 1440p resolution at 120fps in a Chrome or Edge browser. The RTX 3080 tier of the GeForce Now service is now accessible with the new browser gameplay options by selecting 1440p on the GeForce Now web version.

The RTX 3080 GeForce Now membership tier was originally launched in 2021, which was the first time the service offered streams of up to 1440p resolution with 120fps on PCs and Macs or 4K HDR at 60fps on Nvidia’s Shield TV. Previously, you had to download the dedicated application on your preferred platform to access those performance specs, because web was limited to 1080p at 60fps. That is now no longer the case.

The GeForce Now RTX 3080 tier is likely the best performing game streaming service currently available, as is offers the lowest latency, support for ray tracing, and the 120fps option. It seems the service is successful enough to justify further investments to make it more performative, with latency expected to decrease further in future updates. This latest update makes GeForce Now even more accessible, particularly on older devices, Chromebooks, and even Xbox consoles that can access the service through the Edge browser.

“Ten years in the making, it’s a combination of everything that we’ve learned about cloud gaming and all the of best technology of GeForce gaming,” said Phil Eisler, the head of GeForce Now at Nvidia, after launching the RTX 3080 tier.

“The result is a perfectly smooth and synchronous cloud gaming stream, that’s the smoothest we’ve ever seen, as well as lower latency,” explains Eisler. “So really, I think a great technology to make it feel like you’re playing on a local computer.”

While the service isn’t yet available in South Africa, we are expecting it soon as the service expands globally.
