Samsung unwraps the Galaxy S22 and S22+

It’s another February and another Unpacked from Samsung, which means that we can now finally gaze upon its newest flagship handsets; this year, the company unveiled the Galaxy S22 and S22+, which unsurprisingly build on the strengths of the outgoing S21 range.

Visually, both devices are similar to their forebears and come in four colours – namely, black, white, green, and pink. Both devices feature the same rounded corners and camera bump as their predecessors.

In terms of cameras, both models support a triple camera configuration – namely, that’s a 50-megapixel main shooter, a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. On the front, there’s a 10-megapixel selfie camera.

Depending on the territory in which they’re sold, both devices will alternatively use Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 chipset or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

The commonalities end there – where the S22 carries a 6.1″ display and has a 3,700mAh battery, the S22+ has a larger 6.6″ screen with a 4,500mAh battery. Additionally, the S22+ features 45W wired fast charging in comparison to the S22’s 25W.

Both devices will launch with Android 12 and One UI 4.1 in tow.

Both devices are set to launch in South Africa on March 11. Samsung is set to offer only the 256GB storage variant of either model on our shores. The Galaxy S22 is set to retail for R19,999 ZAR, while the S22+ will fetch a price tag of R22,999 ZAR.
