Apple broke both news headlines and its own trend last week with the news that it would soon provide customers with part kits and manuals for DIY home repairs for its latest iPhones and M1 Macs. Now, the company has offered more details around how it plans to manage this new offering.
The program, which will launch in the United States and will later become available in other territories, will see Apple provide self-published repair manuals on its own Support website, where users will be able to review the repair process they’ve requested prior to ordering part kits.
Apple has confirmed that its online parts store will instead be managed by an as-yet unspecified third party. While the company hasn’t yet provided why it has chosen to outsource its program, MacRumors notes that the principle is already in place considering how the company handles shipments to Apple Authorized Service Providers.
It remains to be seen how the program will be managed once it expands to overseas venues; the company has yet to confirm exactly how it plans to manage the rollout of its self-service repair program internationally and which territories can expect to receive coverage first.
The company has confirmed that further details will be made available as the program launches in the near future.
