The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox and PC exclusive

In an interview with GQ, Xbox chief Phil Spencer alluded to the fact that The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox and PC exclusive. It came up in the part of the interview about Bethesda, which Microsoft purchased back in 2020 and came into the stable in March 2021. An upcoming Bethesda game, sci-fi adventure Starfield, has already been confirmed as an Xbox and PC exclusive.

In what was almost a throwaway comment, Spencer added that he “sees the same for The Elder Scrolls VI.” “But in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls VI. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises,” he was quoted as saying.

The language is a bit ambiguous, of course, so there is still the possibility that it will be launched on other platforms as well. However, it was always an inevitability that the games and franchises Microsoft purchased would be tied into Games Pass with exclusivity.

“If you’re an Xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is that this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists,” Spencer said. “That’s our goal, that’s why we’re doing this, that’s the root of this partnership that we’re building.”

“With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players,” he said.

Unfortunately, he didn’t hint when the new game will be coming out – we only got to see a brief teaser of it back in 2018 at E3. It has now been a decade since the release of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
