Our favourite mid-range device from 2020 was the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, bringing most of the flagship features of the S20 at a lower price. Initial rumours hinted that we won’t be getting a follow-up this year, but a new leak has revealed the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition), a budget-friendly version of the flagship S21.

Just like its predecessor, the Galaxy S21 FE will look and feel very similar to its flagship brethren, with leaked marketing images showing the device from most angles. The device will have three cameras on the back, thought to be similar (but not the same) as on the S21 family, which includes a main 64MP sensor, a depth sensor, and an ultra-wide-angle sensor. The S21 has a telephoto as the third camera.
The display will probably not be the same quality as on the flagship, but it will still be a high-quality panel. When compared to the S21 base model’s 6.2-inch display, the S21 FE is rumored to have a slightly bigger screen than its premium counterpart, sporting a 6.4-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display. It will also have a hole-punch notch housing a 32MP selfie camera, along with an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The S21 FE will include a larger battery than the S21 – 4,500mAh vs. 4,000mAh. The other internals are very close to the flagship sibling’s – it will have the Snapdragon 888 or the Exynos 2100 chip depending on the market, as well as up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
The Galaxy S21 FE was rumoured not to happen because of the ongoing global chip shortage. Samsung was said to be using all their flagship chipsets, like the Snapdragon 888, to be put into their flagship devices. However, focus may have already been shifted to the Galaxy S22 which will launch early next year.
