Apple Music could be coming to the PlayStation 5

Modern consoles are meant to be an all-in-one entertainment hub for the living room. Sure, its primary function will always be to deliver the best gaming experience, but they have become much more than that. They are now able to function as a smart TV as well, with all TV streaming options available on most consoles. Music streaming came next, with streaming service Spotify being the first to launch on the PlayStation 5 at the end of last year. New reports claim that the PlayStation 5 might soon get support for Apple Music streaming service.

While it hasn’t been widely released for the flagship Sony console, some users have been reporting seeing it in their music streaming options, first noticed by a Reddit user. The option apparently showed up after they made a new account and tried to link it with Spotify. This Apple Music option didn’t work on the PlayStation 5 yet, however, reporting that trying to link it supplied to an error message that said, “this app is playable only on PS4.” Some others have since tried to reproduce it by setting up new accounts, but few were able to do so.

It seems that these users erroneously saw the upcoming option, suggesting that it may not be far from launch. It wouldn’t be Apple’s first foray into the PlayStation 5 ecosystem. Recently the two companies launched a new promotion for Apple TV Plus for the PlayStation 5. It could be the beginning of a closer relationship, as Apple is expanding its software partnerships in recent years. Apple Music was also launched on Samsung smart TVs recently, showing Apple is open to launching its services on platforms other than its own, which is a big departure from previous policies.
