Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy coming as re-release of three classics

The whole gaming community is waiting with bated breath for an announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI, the long-awaited sequel to GTA V that launched back in 2013. While that might still be some way off, Rockstar Games has announced that it is re-releasing three Grand Theft Auto titles – the bundle includes GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas. Named Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definite Edition, it will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC later this year.

The same bundle will also be launched on Android and iOS devices in the first half of 2022, although an exact date wasn’t noted either.

Rockstar said that they will keep the look and feel of the games akin to the originals, but it will have upgraded visuals (naturally) as well as “modern gameplay enhancements.” As you can imagine, a game that released in 2001 (GTA III) won’t hold up very well among its modern contemporaries, so presumably a lot is changing on that front. Not a lot of information was shared with the announcements, but Rockstar promised to reveal a lot more in the coming weeks.

Interestingly, Rockstar will remove the original versions of GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas from all digital marketplaces this week in preparation for the launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy. So even if you wanted to try out the games in their original states, you won’t be able to do that for very long.

The 22nd of October is the 20-year anniversary for GTA III, and to commemorate it Rockstar will be holding some special events and releasing some special gear in GTA Online.

For all those gamers unhappy that it wasn’t the GTA VI announcement, here’s some valuable advice – stop playing GTA V and it will come.
