The DStv Streama was announced alongside the new DStv Explora Ultra decoder last year. While the latter went on sale towards the end of last year, with very little information about the former being divulged at the time. This is the first time we have received more information about the Streama, although we still don’t know when it will be released.
There are those in the industry that have been speculating that the device has been shelved altogether. However, MultiChoice has now confirmed this is not the case.
“The unforeseen global chipset supply constraint that resulted from high industry demand and low manufacturing supply has meant that MultiChoice has had to adjust our Streama launch plan,” the company said.
Unfortunately, MultiChoice has not provided a new intended launch date, saying that the new timeline will be communicated “in due course.”
When it does launch, it will come into a very saturated market full of competition from international brands. Popular options in the country include devices from Apple, Amazon, and Google.
The DStv Streama will be capable of streaming up to 4K resolution at 60fps and includes HDR10 and Dolby Vision support.
