Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill Mi – Xiaomi rebrands its mobile lineup

Xiaomi’s range of smart devices are perhaps best known for their price point, and after that there’s the fact that you could alternatively own a Xiaomi, Mi, or Redmi device. Now, according to The Verge, the brand’s lineup will become far cleaner as it prepares to drop the ‘Mi’ moniker once and for all.

According to a Xiaomi spokesperson, the Chinese marque intends to market devices previously known as ‘Mi’ as simply Xiaomi. As The Verge cites, a spokesperson clarified that“this change will unify our global brand presence and close the perception gap between the brand and its products. This change may take some time to take effect in all regions.”

Going forward, Xiaomi’s devices will be split among the (even more) budget-conscious Redmi range, while Xiaomi-marked products would “represent the pinnacle of technology and offer a premium experience.”

The revised nomenclature would be present across the brand’s other products, such as its IoT devices, over time as well.

Interestingly, the move would closely mirror how the company’s own products are marketed in its homeland of China – where Mi devices have been marketed under the Xiaomi name all along.
