Similarly to how popular video conferencing apps such as Zoom or Google Meet function, WhatsApp has announced a new feature that will enable group participants to drop in or out of a group call when they’re ready.
In the new update, users will be able to see a list of active calls directly from the Call tab on their device, and can either opt to dial in via voice or video as they prefer.
As WhatsApp explains, “some of the best conversations happen when you least expect it. Now, if someone in your group misses a call when the phone rings, they can still join whenever they like. You can also drop-off and re-join so long as the call is still ongoing.”
Should a user opt to ignore an incoming group call, they can simply join the conversation at a later stage from the Calls tab, while a call info screen will list the participants that have joined the conversation as well as those who have yet to.
WhatsApp has confirmed that the feature is presently rolling out now, and should be available to all users worldwide within the coming days.
