Are you going to enter the eLaLiga Santander Fan Cup?

Calling on all eSports players, this one’s for you as eLaLiga Santander has organised a first ever amateur competition with prize money of 10.000€ (Over 190.000ZAR) in store for the winner. The official FIFA 21 tournament in Spain organized by LaLiga and the Electronic Arts is the one in question and has now gone global.

This year, for the first time, LaLiga and the Electronic Arts are bringing the amateur competition to millions of fans around the world under the name of eLaLiga Santander Fan Cup. The great news is we (South Africans) are eligible to also participate.

This isn’t the first time the two entities have collaborated and in fact this comes on the back of the partnership renewal they announced early this year. LaLiga and the Electronic Arts aren’t the only sponsors involved, joining them are title sponsor Banco Santander and Verizon (a current sponsor of LaLiga in North America). Together they have signed on to be partners of the global tournament further demonstrating their interest in the business of eSports.

‘While eLaLiga Santander looks for the best professional players in the country for the fourth consecutive year in a row, eLaLiga Santander Fan Cup will bring the competition to amateur players around the world that simply enjoy playing EA SPORTS FIFA21, and will provide them an all new competitive experience to help test their skills.’

For us here in Mzansi, LaLiga has confirmed that it will hold two online FIFA 21 tournaments aimed at finding two nationals who will participate in the regional tournament finals. They will then go on to compete for a spot in the eLaLiga Fan Cup Grand finals.

More details from the announcement also indicate that ‘during November and December, a series of online tournaments will be played in each region in order to select a total of 24 players. Through the first months of 2021, the finalists from each region will compete in three regional finals in order to fight for a spot at the eLaLiga Fan Cup Grand Final, that will be celebrated on May 8th in Madrid.’

Local players from our shores (who will be paired in a ‘rest of the world’ group that includes, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt) will battle it out for the top 2 spots between the 20th – 21st February 2021. There’s no doubt that this tournament has the power to change one lucky fan’s life.

The 16 different countries chosen for the first ever eLaLiga Santander Fan Cup are China, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, United States, Mexico, Argentina, Columbia, Brazil, Ecuador, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Russia, and Spain.
